Rosemount starter Gabby Sprang allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over six innings of shutout ball before the Panthers strung together three hits and a hit-by-pitch to rally for a 2-1 South Suburban Conference win.

The Irish offense, after putting up 10 hits in Friday’s 5-3 road win at Apple Valley, managed just four against North. Pinch hitter Maddie Van Sickle plated the visitors’ lone run with a single that brought in Vanessa Dougherty in the top of the fourth.

Sprang, Ericka Tamminen and Nicole Hutchinson each had singles for the Irish.

Sprang got some early run support Friday at Apple Valley. An Eagle error brought in one run in the second and an inning later Nichole Johnson and Sarah Jacobs doubled and scored to make it 3-0.

Another RBI double by Jacobs and a Maddy Moran RBI single made it 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Moran and Jacobs each finished with three hits and Johnson had two.

Sprang allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out six over seven innings to pick up her first win of the season.

The Irish (1-2) host Prior Lake Tuesday and traveled to Bloomington Kennedy on Wednesday. They play in a tournament in North St. Paul this weekend.
