Softball: Irish knock of No. 4 Prior Lake
The rain stopped long enough for the Rosemount softball team to capture its biggest win of the young season last Tuesday.
Behind Gabby Sprang’s complete-game shutout, the Irish knocked off pre-season No. 4-ranked Prior Lake 1-0 at The Cove in Rosemount.
Sprang allowed six hits and walked seven, but stranded 14 Prior Lake runners on base over seven innings. The left-hander struck out five and was backed by errorless defense.
The Irish scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Jacobs led off the inning with a single and pinch runner Izzy Simdorn scored on a pinch hit single by Madi Van Sickle.
Ericka Tamminen had two of Rosemount’s six hits.
The Irish (4-3) competed again this weekend and won two out of three games at the North St. Paul Tournament. They lost to Fargo West 4-0, but came back to defeat Totino-Grace 12-2 and Burnsville 4-1.
