Softball: Irish drop opener, 2-1
Bad weather has postponed five of Rosemount’s six attempts to get in a softball game over the last 13 days.
The only day the Irish got on the field was last Wednesday when they lost a 2-1 pitcher’s duel on the road at Burnsville.
The Irish (0-1) managed just three hits. Their lone run came in the first inning when Nichole Johnson drove in Anna Hinderaker, who reached on a walk. Johnson, Sarah Jacobs and Vanessa Dougherty each supplied singles.
Pitcher Gabby Sprang went all seven innings, allowing five hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches. Burnsville tied the game with a run in the fourth and walked off with another run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Irish were scheduled to play their first home game of the season Wednesday against Bloomington Jefferson. They are hoping to get in another game this afternoon at Eagan.
