Eastview's big day at the plate spoiled Rosemount's home softball opener Monday afternoon.

The Irish allowed double figure runs for the first time in nearly three years as the Lightning cruised to a 12-5 South Suburban Conference victory in Rosemount.

Rosemount did the bulk of its damage against Eastview pitcher Marissa Lennars in the third inning, scoring four runs on three hits. Summer Lindelien started the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a base hit by Sarah Jacobs. Melissa Seldon reached via walk before Hannah Esselman ripped a two-run double.

Jacobs and Esselman each had two hits. Meghan Schuster added a single and two RBI.

Esselman and Schuster also teamed up for a double play in the fourth inning. Esselman fielded a grounder and threw to first for an out before Schuster fired to the plate to compete the twin killing.

Anna Hinderacker capped off a one-error showing by the Irish defense with a diving catch in the seventh inning.

Freshman Nichole Johnson was the losing pitcher for the Irish in her first career start.

The Irish were back in action Wednesday when they traveled to Kelly Fields in Bloomington to take on Bloomington Kennedy.
