Change is always happening and in 2013 Rosemount residents will likely notice quite a bit of it around town. City administrator Dwight Johnson said the city council established a number of goals last year and a good many the projects will happen this year. There are 10 big projects that will come including:

• The installation of new lights and sound equipment at the Steeple Center

• Remodeled bathrooms at the Rosemount Community Center

• Addition of new tables and chairs in the banquet room at the Rosemount Community Center

• Construction of four new tennis courts at Erickson Park

• Beginning of work on two, possibly three new green fields on the Flint Hills Resources property that was donated to the city several years ago

• Improvements to the Erickson Park shelter

• The construction of a senior center

• Construction of a pedestrian underpass on Highway 3 north of Rosemount High School

• Construction of a splash pad or water feature in one of the city's parks

• Building of a frontage road in the Rosewood Commercial development

• Installation of a pedestrian crossing across the railroad tracks on 145th Street north of Rosemount City Hall

All of the projects are part of the city's Capital Improvement Plan. The city updates its CIP annually to account for the city's needs and to help budget accordingly.

Johnson said the city uses the document to predict costs for the coming year. The CIP looks out at community needs for 10 years.

Take, for instance, the planned senior center: the city council has been talking about its construction for several years and put it on the CIP to help save and plan for the addition.

The city's advisory boards including the planning commission and parks and recreation board will begin working on many of the project after the new year.
