Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Rosemount girls soccer coach Kevin Adams knew his team would be ready for the opening of the playoffs after Monday's practice.

With snow on the ground, the Irish went into the Irish Dome for its practice in preparation for Tuesday's section tournament game.

During the practice, Rosemount showed the determination it needed to bring into the playoffs.

"They took a far more business-like approach to practice," Adams said. "It was a much better practice than we've had in a while. It said to me that the girls recognized the importance of this game. I knew they would do what it would take to get it done.

"It was the first home game in a long time. It was important for the program, to play well with the community watching. I think a lot of things came together last night."

The Irish had earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 2A, Section 3 tournament. They had their first home playoff game in several years.

However, the Irish weren't settling for their newfound recognition. They beat sixth-seeded Hastings, 3-0, to advance to the section semifinals.

"It was the girls basically coming out knowing what was at stake and they played right off the bat with the intensity and urgency that you need to play with this time of year," Adams said.

Sarah Scinto had two goals. Shade Pratt scored one goal and passed out two assists. Jackie Kemnic had an assist.

"It was a good night for the girls," Adams said. "All the girls pressure fell on us last night. Being the three seed we had more to lose than Hastings did. The girls seemed to understand that."

Pratt opened the scoring in the first half, and Scinto scored her first of the game to give the Irish a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Scinto closed the scoring in the second half.

Rosemount plays at No. 2 seed Eastview in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19.

The Lightning beat the Irish 2-0 late in the regular season.

"The last time Eastview came out early with a lot of urgency and intensity and we were not able to match it," Adams said. "I really think the biggest thing is having that urgency and intensity right from the whistle and play at that level for 80 minutes. There isn't room for error. We need to play pretty close to mistake free."
