Schuh named Miss Wheelchair USA
Tasha Schuh was named Miss Wheelchair USA Saturday night in Ohio.
"No matter what happened, I'm so glad I went," the Ellsworth native said. "It was an awesome experience." Upon winning the award, Schuh said she was very shocked when her name was called.
Schuh was named Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin last September. She became interested in applying when she found out the judging focused on one's accomplishments and achievements of being in a wheelchair.
Schuh said each contestant at the Miss Wheelchair pageant had to chose a platform and she went with the power of a positive attitude.
"Life is worth living," she said. "My passion is speaking and I now have this platform to share my story throughout the nation. I am very honored and excited for this year."
Schuh was paralyzed in high school when she fell through an open trap door onto a cement floor at the Sheldon Theater in Red Wing. She was taking part in a school musical.
She has said since she is thankful her accident happened.
"I wouldn't change anything," she said.
