School board will discuss middle school changes tonight
The District 196 School Board will handle organizational matters, talk about its budget and take action on a proposed overhaul of the middle school program at its meeting tonight.
The school board will start tonight's meeting the same way it starts the first meeting of every year: by choosing a chairperson, vice chair, clerk and treasurer. Bigger conversations will follow.
Board members will get an update on the final budget for 2010-11 and look ahead to see what lies ahead for next year's budget. They'll also learn about award given for the design of some additions in the district and approve school calendars through the 2012-13 school year.
The board will also likely take action on a revamped middle school program that includes a move to a six-period day and adjustments more flexibility in the classes students take. The change is designed to give students more time in core classes such as English and math while also providing opportunities to intervene with students who are struggling.
The district presented the changes to the public in a special meeting Dec. 2.
Tonight's meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Dakota Ridge School, 4629 144th St. W.
