Rosemount will battle Hastings in three-game playoff series
A field of 32 teams will be reduced this weekend to 16 for the sub-district Legion baseball tournament after a round of play-in series.
Rosemount will battle Hastings in its play-in series match-up.
The Irish will be on the road for all three games, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, on Sunday.
Rosemount coach Justin Blackmer is expecting big things from his squad in the post-season, and he has a few surprises for upcoming opponents.
"I think we are playing at our best," he said. "None of the teams in our district have seen either one of our (pitching) aces, Blake (Schwartz) and Eugene (Sturm).
"We have two aces up our sleeves going in."
Along with the pitching advantage, Blackmer has called up a few players from the VFW team, which wrapped up its season last weekend in sub-district play.
"We have a full roster now," Blackmer said.
If Rosemount wins, it would likely face Eagan in the first round of sub-district play on Wednesday at a site yet to be determined.
During the last week of regular season play, Rosemount continued to fare well.
Wallace picks up win
The Irish beat Prior Lake Tuesday night, 8-6, behind the pitching of Justin Wallace. He came on in relief and was on the mound when Rosemount took a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Blair Hansen continued his recent hot streak at the plate, pacing the offense with a home run.
Too much for South
Rosemount rolled over Lakeville South by the 10-run mercy rule last week, 15-3.
Chris Komorouski had a no-hitter through four innings and picked up the victory on the mound.
"All of our bats were hot that whole game," Blackmer said. "Everybody contributed."
