Rosemount VFW bows out of tournament
A pair of lopsided losses at last week's Sub-District Touranment left the Rosemount VFW baseball team with a 7-19 record for the summer.
Rosemount, seeded sixth in the six-team tournament, opened with a 15-5 loss to Inver Grove Heights Thursday afternoon in South St. Paul. The team started out better in Friday's loser's bracket game against Farmington, but eventually got out-slugged, 19-10.
"Our season had a lot of ups and downs. The kids showed a lot of promise and a lot of skills that they can work on," Rosemount coach Scott Eul said. "Hopefully ending the year like this leaves them with a bad taste in their mouths and they get back at it, working on the things this summer to get better and hopefully have a better season next year."
Brian Rogers and Matt Thaden each had a pair of RBI hits in the loss to Inver Grove Heights. Thaden had three hits and Rogers, Danny Farris and Sam Bauer each tallied two hits against Farmington on Friday.
"I don't know if we kept (Farmington) from scoring in any innings. Our defense got lazy," Eul said. "Our offense got us back in the game, but we weren't able to come back and shut them down and add on to take the lead. They capitalized on some errors and scored some more runs."
Rosemount went through four pitchers in the tournament opener and five in Game 2.
