Rosemount unit will deploy to Iraq
Residents may have noticed that the Rosemount Community Center seems particularly busy lately. The reason, the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, which is based out of the center, is preparing to deploy to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On Thursday morning the Department of Defense announced that it will deploy more than 1,000 soldiers to Iraq to serve in an unprecedented role in the country.
Lt. Col. Kevin Olson said the division, which is headquartered in the Rosemount Community Center, will command all coalition military operations in eight of Iraq's 18 provinces. To put that in perspective it will be responsible for roughly one third of Iraq.
The 1,037 soldiers being called to active duty will leave for training Feb. 13.
