Rosemount marching band is state champion again
For as long as there has been a Minnesota state marching band title, the Rosemount High School band has won it.
The Irish picked up their seventh straight title Saturday at the Metrodome.
Rosemount won the title with an ambitious performance that combines classic rock music with opera and classical songs.
"One of the things we try to do is keep people guessing," band director Steve Olsen said last week. "We think it's kind of fun to not fall into the same routine.... We like the fact that it keeps it fresh for our kids and us."
The band has been working on this year's show since July.
The band's season will wrap up next weekend with a Bands of America regional competition at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. That competition will feature a record 58 bands from 14 states.
Rosemount has made the finals each of the eight years it has competed in St. Louis and has finished as high as third overall.
