Rosemount man crushed by skid loader
A 27-year-old Rosemount man died Monday afternoon after being crushed by a skid loader in Spring Lake Township. Spring Lake Township is near Prior Lake in Scott County.
Nathan John Vandewege was working as a contractor at Applied Ecological Services when the accident occurred. Scott County sheriff's deputy Ron Holbeck said deputies are still trying to determine what happened to the young man.
During the early afternoon Holbeck said Vandewege was sent out to remove snow with a Bobcat skid loader. Sometime later he was found pinned between the forks of the machine and the basket.
Holbeck said they believe Vandewege could have been trying to change the bucket on the machine while it was still running but no one witnessed the incident so officers aren't sure.
The co-worker, who found Vandewege, ordered other co-workers to call for help and started CPR. Firefighters responded to the scene at around 2:30 p.m. and continued resuscitation. Attempts failed and Vandewege was pronounced dead by Allina medics.
Applied Ecological Services is a prairie and wetland management company.
The incident remains under investigation by the Regional Coroners Office, OSHA and the Scott County Sheriff's Department.
