The landscaping has taken shape. The outside obviously looks like a McDonald's and a ribbon cutting is planned. Rosemount once again will have a McDonald's in just a short week.

The restaurant, which has been fully rebuilt, will open at 5 a.m. Aug. 1. Owner Kay Butler said they are excited to show off their new store.

"We wanted it to be a place people can be proud of," said Butler of the new restaurant. "We are really excited about it."

Butler said it's always a tough decision to shut down a restaurant to rebuild, but the old building needed repairs and was laid out poorly on the property. They listed the pros and cons and decided it would be in their best interest to rebuild.

The new restaurant is about the same square footage as the old one but is narrower and longer. By narrowing the building, Butler said, they were able to put in two drive-through lanes, which should cut down on congestion in the parking lot.

The restaurant will feature a new ordering system in which customers will order their food and then retrieve the food from a separate location. The restaurant will be equipped with digital menu boards and sport the restaurant's new look.

A concern of some was that the restaurant would not replace its Play Land. Butler said they weighed the pros and cons and decided to keep it.

Overall, Butler is happy with the way things have gone. She believes the new building brings a lot to Rosemount

"The community has been really supportive and we managed to get it done in three months," said Butler.

During construction many of the employees were placed in other stores or put on leaves of absence. Butler said next week many of the store's employees will return. Additionally, she said they have hired 30 extra people.

Butler owns 10 McDonald's restaurants with her husband Thomas. Kay said they both started working at the fast food chain when they were 16 and worked their way up. The two bought their first store in Prior Lake in 1995 and haven't looked back since.

While crews are still working on some of the interior stuff, Butler was confident they will be ready to open next week. They will have a soft opening and ribbon cutting July 31.

The first 100 customers Aug. 1 will get a free tote. Butler said they will have additional specials throughout the first weekend.
