Post-bar fight leads to charges
A 30-year-old Eagan resident has been charged with assault after he started allegedly punching someone he was in mid conversation with.
According to the complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, on March 21, a man went to the Rosemount Police Department to report he had been assaulted on March 16. The man told the officer that a little after midnight he was in a car with four other people in the parking lot of a bar in Rosemount. One of those four people was Travis Monahan.
Monahan was sitting in the front passenger seat and the man was in the driver's seat. They were having a conversation about calling someone for a ride home when Monahan started repeatedly punching the man in the face. One of the passengers in the car pulled Monahan off of the man. The other person was inside the bar. Monahan stayed in the car while the man he allegedly assaulted walked to a gas station and got a ride home.
In the morning he went to the emergency room and discovered he had a broken nose, a broken jaw, and fractures on the right side of his face. A few days later he had surgery. He explained that after the assault and surgery he was in a lot of pain and it was difficult for him to speak, which is why he waited a few days to report the assault.
If convicted of assault, Travis Monahan could spend up to five years in jail and fines of $10,000.
