Rosemount police and firefighters were a little bit busier in 2011 than they were in 2010.

Firefighters had 690 medical and fire calls last year. That's up from 2010 and the most the fire department has had since responding to 769 calls in 2008.

Fire chief Scott Aker said the department had a good year in 2011, with no injuries to firefighters. Aker said fire response times have been improving.

The department also added a new truck this year. That unit responded to its first call Dec. 30 at a fire in Coates. Aker said so far the truck has performed as expected.

Rosemount police responded to more calls last year, but wrote fewer reports.

Police chief Gary Kalstabakken said the department had 14,554 calls for service in 2011. That includes traffic stops and other incidents where a police officer initiated contact. That's up from 14,432 in 2010.

But police officers wrote two fewer reports last year than they did in 2010, 2,309 to 2,311.

Kalstabakken said there was a slight increase in vandalism, thefts and misdemeanor assaults from 2010 to 2011.
