The body of Schunk, who has been missing since the night of Sept. 22, was found Sept. 30 in rural Rice County. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified Schunk's remains and ruled her death a homicide.

According to a press release from the Rosemount Police Department, based on evidence collected so far investigators believe Schunk was killed in Rosemount. Their investigation into the death is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Dakota County for charges when completed.

Schunk was last seen with her ex-boyfriend Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson and his current girlfriend Ashley Conrade. He is suspected in the Sept. 22 shooting death of Palagor Obang Jobi at Nina’s Grill in Burnsville. Charges have been filed against Chavez-Nelson and Conrade in connection with that murder.

Rosemount Police nabbed Chavez-Nelson at 12:20 p.m. Sept. 24 after a short pursuit down Shannon Parkway near County Road 46.

While the deaths are connected, police are investigating the homicides separately.

Police chief Eric Werner stated in the press release, "On behalf of all the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation and the County Attorney's Office, we wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Anarae Schunk for their great loss. We are  committed to doing everything we can to bring to justice the person responsible for this horrific crime."

Also aiding with the investigation are the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, and the Burnsville Police Department.

The Rosemount Police Department is seeking information from the public to help in the investigation.  Please contact the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 651-438-4720.  Anonymous information can also be provided online at http://www.dakotacountysheriff.org/etip.html .
