Parks department shows outdoor movies July 19 and Aug. 16
The city of Rosemount will hold two outdoor movies this summer. E.T. and Shrek III will grace the big screen in Central Park for kids of all ages to enjoy.
E.T. will be shown July 19 during the city's sesquicentennial celebration. The movie will finish out a day of fun that will include history presentations, a bluegrass festival and square dancing.
Parks and recreation supervisor Lacelle Cordes said staff chose E.T. because the movie is celebrating an anniversary as well. E.T. celebrates 25 years this year.
Twilight Zone, a company that specializes in outdoor entertainment, will provide the screen and play the movie, Cordes said. The Hastings-based company has done events in several neighboring communities including Farmington.
The city tried to hold an outdoor movie last summer but it was cancelled due to rain. Because of that the city will hold two this year if the weather cooperates.
All residents are encouraged to attend the free family friendly event, Cordes said.
Those who attend should bring lawn chairs and blankets. Cordes said residents should also bring snacks and beverages because no concessions will be available.
Cordes said because of loud noises and bright lights residents should refrain from bringing pets to the event.
The second movie will be Shrek III on Aug. 16. Both movies will begin at dusk.
Although the movie was rained out last year Cordes said they received a lot of interest in it. She anticipates the city will host at least one movie per summer in the coming years.
