One Rosemount and Boy Scouts come together for community scout event
As a way to get more youth involved in Scouting, One Rosemount will hold the first community Scout event on Aug. 11. All area scouts are invited to be apart of a community panoramic picture as well as bring non-Scouting friends to participate in various activities.
"We've been working with our local district to try to figure a way to make Scouting better," said MaryJane Schneider, Webelos leader for Pack 270 in Rosemount as well as a member of the membership committee.
The leaders of different troops in Rosemount were brainstorming ways to promote scouting, and this event is what they came up with. Schneider said that since schools no longer hold open houses, this is a way to reach out to the community. Local packs will join together to look for new members. There are seven Boy Scout packs in Rosemount.
"We are thinking there are 200 scouts and we are hoping they'll each bring a friend," Schneider said. "We are hoping for a good turnout."
The event is open to all youth ages 5-21. Though it is hosted by the area Boy Scouts, they also welcome area Girl Scouts to participate. There will be a variety of Scout related activities available, such as bottle rockets, pinewood derby races and team building activities.
"We are hoping to have things that are going to engage kids, show them what Scouting is about," Schneider said.
The event will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Central Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair.
