New studio offers fitness for the whole family
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

It’s a business plan they believe makes sense, and as they open their joint venture the owners of USA Karate and Platinum Yoga and Fitness hope it’s one that succeeds.

USA Karate and Platinum Yoga will open a joint facility in Rosemount that will offer martial arts training and adult fitness programming. USA Karate and Platinum Yoga will open Sept. 2 at 14879 S. Robert Tr.

The premise behind the business is that mom and dad can take fitness classes while their children take karate in an adjacent room. USA Karate instructor David Younglove said they want to provide the opportunity for parents to focus on their own fitness.

Generally, he said, parents spend the time their kids are in classes sitting in the lobby and playing on their phones or reading. By teaming up, Younglove, said adults can take advantage of the time to get fit themselves.

“We will provide one-stop fitness for the whole family,” said DeNae Shewmake, Platinum Yoga and Fitness co-founder.

Shewmake said they are one of the first fitness facilities in the United States to offer dual studios so children and adults can get fit at the same time.

The facility , which is located in the former Clear Light Yoga location, features two studios, changing rooms and a shower room.

Shewmake said adult fitness classes will include yoga, boot camp, kickboxing, Zumba and personal training.

Shewmake said Platinum focuses on tailoring programs to individual needs. She said each person comes at their own fitness level and needs to progress at their own rate.

After each class, Platinum offers a complimentary cup of coffee. Customers who attend 30 classes receive a Platinum Yoga coffee cup. Shewmake also guaranteed a hug.

By offering coffee and hugs, Shewmake said she wants clients to develop a friendly atmosphere and a sense of belonging at the studio.

“My husband jokes that we’re a social club that does yoga,” said Shewmake.

While it might be a quip, Shewmake said it’s important people have a comfortable place to come to reach their fitness goals.

In addition to offering classes, Shewmake said the studio will offer community events and the opportunity to hold birthday parties at the Rosemount location.

As they put the final touches into the location, Younglove said he’s excited to be in the Rosemount community. Younglove, who also owns a Burnsville location, said they already have a number of people who come over for Karate.

“It was a natural fit,” said Younglove.

USA Karate and Platinum Yoga will open Sept. 2 and 3. As part of their opening the facility will offer free classes.
