New business sells old-school entertainment
Daniel Edeen loves games. Specifically, he enjoys retro video games and he’s hoping enough other people do that he can make a good business out of it.
On Aug. 9, Edeen will open Legacy Games. The store will offer a variety of games including retro video games, board games, card games and more. More importantly, Edeen said, the store will offer a place to play games and hang out with other gamers.
At the shop, which is located next to Jimmy Johns, Edeen said he plans to host events weekly in which people can come down to play. He’s open to suggestions on what games people would like to play.
“This will be a good place for kids who do this kind of thing to come hang out,” said Edeen.
Edeen said some of the best gamers in the world live in Minnesota and he hopes to draw the gaming community to Rosemount for various events including tournaments.
Turning a hobby into a business
Edeen has been buying and selling games for years. He started when he purchased a bundle of games on Craigslist for $50.
“I thought, ‘This is worth more than that,’” said Edeen.
Edeen was able to turn the bundle around for a nice profit and he’s been making extra cash that way ever since.
Obviously, selling games as a hobby and owning a store are very different and Edeen has been doing his research.
A software developer, Edeen travels often and he has visited game stores all over the United States, figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
While he hasn’t quit his day job, Edeen said he’s confident he can make the store a fun and profitable business venture. He hopes to open a second store in the near future.
Legacy Games is located at 15068 Claret Ave. W. Store hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
This city of Rosemount will host a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Aug. 11 and a grand opening event is scheduled for Aug. 16.
