Mystery dinner theater returns Jan. 18
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Diamond Jim Brady and his consort Lillian Russell will be in Rosemount Jan. 18. They will bring trouble with them and the Rosemount Area Arts Council needs some sleuths to help catch a murderer.

RAAC will host their annual Mystery Dinner Theater at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Steeple Center. This year’s interactive production will be The Return of Diamond Jim.

Event organizer Keith Reed said the scene will be Diamond Jim’s Restaurant, a fine eating establishment south of St. Paul. Diamond Jim was a railroad magnate at the turn of the century. He infrequently visits his restaurant and when he does it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen.

The play is set in 1890. As in past years, Reed encouraged audience members to dress up. For this production he said western attire would be best.

“We really want people to take part and enjoy themselves,” said Reed.

Reed said the production is highly interactive and the actors include audience members as much as possible. In fact, it’s an audience member who eventually solves the mystery.

“We turn them into sleuths. The crowds really get in to it,” said Reed.

Annually, the event draws more than 100 people. Reed said the productions are always well received and he’s hopeful for a good audience this year.

The mystery dinner theater is put on as partnership between RAAC and Mr. Mystery Productions, which is owned and operated by Reed. Reed, who is a RAAC member, donates the time and talents of his theater company to RAAC for the event.

The event is RAAC’s largest annual fundraiser. The proceeds help fund the many free events the organization puts on throughout the year.

Las Tortillas will cater the meal. Dinner will include a tossed Caesar salad, herbed dinner rolls, seasonal fresh vegetables, ricotta and mozzarella lasagna and Italian chicken Marsala.

Cost is $35 per person. Tickets are available at www.rosemountarts.com or at the Front Porch, 14375 S. Robert Tr. For more information call John Loch at 952-255-8545.
