Lind is new director at dispatch center
Since July, Diane Lind has served as the interim executive director of the Dakota Communications Center. The time has served as a sort of audition for the permanent role and last week the center's board of directors decided Lind had the chops to be the star of the show.
"It's been a long process but I'm looking forward to working with the board of directors, executive committee and the operations committee," said Lind. "This gives me the opportunity to impact 911 in a positive manner."
The decision to appoint Lind as the permanent head was made Jan. 20. Lind previously served as the operations director of the DCC. Lind replaced Kent Therkelsen, who was the dispatch center's first director.
In 2010 the board of directors did a nationwide search for Therkelsen's replacement. The board narrowed the field to three, which included Lind, and then stalled making a final decision. The board retained Lind as the interim until it ultimately made the decision to make her the permanent executive director.
"I think she has proven that she's able to run the organization," said Rosemount city council member Jeff Weisensel. Weisensel serves on the board of directors.
"The Dakota Communications Center Board of Directors looks forward to a smooth transition as we continue to serve 911 communications," said George Tourville, board of directors chair and Inver Grove Heights mayor.
Lind said going forward she's looking forward to discovering how technology such as cell phones will impact 911. Additionally, Lind hopes to refine some of the day-to-day operations at the center.
"Everything is going well but there is always room for improvement," said Lind.
The Dakota Communications Center provides centralized 911 services for Dakota County and the cities and townships within it. The dispatch center opened early in 2008. The DCC is equipped with an 800-megahertz digital radio communications system to allow police, fire, EMS and sheriff's personnel in multiple jurisdictions to communicate with each other.
