It's an exciting time at Lighthouse Christian Church. Its congregation has grown in recent years and to accommodate that growth the church has had to make some additions.

Starting Sept. 7 Lighthouse began offering a Saturday evening service. Pastor Bill Goodwin said the leadership at Lighthouse decided last year that the church needed to start offering a second service.

The Sunday morning service starts at 10 a.m. and Goodwin said they didn't feel it would be good to change it to an earlier hour to accommodate a second service. Instead, the leadership thought they could serve their congregation better if they offered it Saturday.

"Sunday morning isn't always the best time for people," said Goodwin.

Goodwin said they announced the additional service to the congregation several weeks ago and the announcement received cheers. He said the service will be similar to Sunday morning but will have its own flair. The church will offer children's ministry on Saturday evenings as well.

The Saturday evening services will begin at 6 p.m. The church also offers services at 10 a.m. on Sundays and at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Goodwin said he and pastor Josh Edwards will be consistent figures at both services. He said the church added a part-time position to aid with the children's ministry on Saturdays.

With more people and more activities going on, the church had a need to move people around. It turns out, Celebration Church in Lakeville had a bus they didn't need and so the church donated the 47-passenger vehicle to Lighthouse.

"They felt like God put it on their heart to donate the bus to us," said Goodwin.

Goodwin said Lighthouse will use the bus for different ministry opportunities including senior day trips, field trips for students of the school and more.

The added service and the bus will help Lighthouse serve its congregation and continue to move forward, said Goodwin. He added that the church has grown nearly 20 percent in recent years and that the growth has included people from many walks of life.

"We are growing cross culturally and it's just an exciting time for Lighthouse," said Goodwin.
