Legion wins 3 of 4 at tourney
Troy Hoeppner, Blair Hansen and Brett Thaden homered over a four-game stretch to help Rosemount's Legion baseball team to a third-place finish at the River Falls Tournament over the weekend.
Rosemount won three of four games at the tourney.
The Irish started off Friday with their only loss, a 9-5 defeat to Woodbury.
Thaden and Hansen each homered in the loss. Hansen was the starting pitcher for Rosemount, and he took the loss.
"We should have won that game," Rosemount coach Justin Blackmer said, recounting some missed opportunities.
Rosemount rebounded with a 9-6 victory over Menomonie.
Justin Wallace had four hits to pace the offense, including a double.
Eugene Sturm picked up the victory on the mound.
In the third game, Rosemount pounded the host team, River Falls, 13-2.
Blake Schwartz had three hits and scored three runs. He also picked up the victory on the mound, striking out 10.
Hoeppner had a huge game at the plate, tallying four hits and two home runs.
In the third place game, Rosemount beat Red Wing, 5-3, behind the strong starting pitching of Michael Robohm.
Robohm pitched the first five innings and kept the Irish in the game. He was relieved by Sturm, who struck out the side in the seventh inning and picked up the win.
Schwartz had three more hits and scored two runs against Red Wing.
Rosemount lost by the 10-run rule to Lakeville North on Monday, as the team had used up most of its regular pitchers at the tournament.
Rosemount will travel to Prior Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday in its final contest before the sub-district tournament, which starts Saturday, July 26.
The seeding meeting is scheduled for Monday for the sub-district tournament, which will be held at a variety of sites across the south metro.
