Legion will host public event featuring music and motorcycles

The 34th Infantry Band wanted to play outdoors, so a band representative asked the Rosemount American Legion if they could perform on their patio. The request got the wheels turning and Jackie Edman took over planning a communitywide event.

Now the Rosemount American Legion Post 65 has invited the public out to enjoy a day of motorcycles and music from 2 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2, at the post, 14590 Burma Ave. Edman said the event offers an opportunity to enjoy a nice afternoon out with the community.

The 34th Infantry Division Band will perform, as will other musical artists throughout the afternoon.

The Apple Valley American Legion Post 1776 Riders will run a motorcycle show. The show is open to anyone who wants to show their bike. Participants can just show up or register in advance by calling Mark at 612-819-1334.

Edman said area businesses have donated prizes for the motorcycle show. While they won’t know until that day, Edman said if the weather is good, she anticipates a good turnout.

The event is free. Donations will be accepted for the Minnesota Military Family Association and the Rosemount Yellow Ribbon Network.

Edman said people shouldn’t feel obligated to give, though. It’s more important they come out and have a nice time.

“It should be a lot of fun,” said Edman.
