Minnesota Congressman John Kline honored Rosemount residents Colin Busho and William Hoffman last week at a ceremony in his Burnsville office to recognize his nominees to the U.S. Service Academies.
"One of the most rewarding responsibilities I have as a member of Congress is nominating the future leaders of the United States Armed Forces," said Kline, a 25-year veteran of the Marine Corps. "As a retired Marine Corps Colonel and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I take a great deal of pride in the fine young men and women who serve our country. These students are well qualified for nomination and would be excellent representatives of Minnesota."
Kline nominated Busho, a senior at Rosemount High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy and West Point. Busho, a member of the National Honor Society and Boys State, wrestles and plays football. His parents are Douglas and Rebecca Busho.
Kline nominated Hoffman, a senior at Rosemount High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Hoffman, a Junior ROTC member, competes in track and field. His parents are Jeffery and Colleen Hoffman.
The Air Force, Army (West Point), Naval, and Merchant Marine Academies require applicants to a U.S. Service Academy to receive a nomination from their Member of Congress, Senator, the Vice President, or the President. Students from Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District who wish to attend a Service Academy may submit an application, which is evaluated by members of Kline's Service Academy Advisory Board. Final nominations are made by Congressman Kline. Each Academy selects students for enrollment from among those nominated.
