Jaci Velasquez will perform May 16

Fans of Christian music can sway with Community of Hope’s Women Who Move as the group hosts Jaci Velasquez in concert May 16.

Velasquez and her husband, Nic Gonzales, lead singer of the Christian group Salvador, will perform starting at 7 p.m. at the church, 14401 Biscayne Ave.

Women Who Move meets Fridays through the school year. The goal of the Community of Hope ministry is to help women deepen their relationship with God and other women.

The group will conclude its program for the year in May and communications director Renee Graves said they wanted to do something big to celebrate. So the group has booked Velasquez, an internationally renowned Christian artist, to perform and has opened the event for the women in the community.

Velasquez has performed to audiences worldwide for nearly two decades. Over the course of her music career she has won seven Dove Awards and been nominated for three Grammys, two Latin Grammys and an American Music Award. Velasquez’s most recent album is called Diamond.

Graves said Velasquez and Gonzales will perform an acoustic show. Throughout the performance, the couple will share stories.

“They really draw you in with their music and stories. They use a lot of humor in their show,” said Graves.

While the event will top off the Women Who Move season, Graves said the concert is open to women in the community. Sorry fellas, you’re out of luck this time around.

Graves said the concert serves as a way to introduce women of the community to Women Who Move. Members of Women Who Move have been asked to bring a friend to the event.

“We want to really encourage people to step out in their faith and ask others to join them,” Graves said. “We hope people want to come back.”

Overall, Graves said the night is about good music and enjoying the company of Christian women.

The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Appetizers will be served. Music will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 if bought in advance or $30 at the door. Childcare is available. Purchase tickets online at
