Irish wrap up banner sports weekend
With March coming on the calendar, the thoughts turn to section and state tournaments for the winter sports progams in Minnes. Rosemount's varsity teams had a strong overall weekend in postseason action.
Katie Murgic and Katrina Clayton competed for the Irish at last week's state gymnastics meet. Murgic placed 10th in the all-around, fifth of the balance beam, and 23rd on the floor exercise. Clayton added a 10th place finish on the uneven bars and a 13th on the beam.
The Irish boys swimming and diving team won the Section 3 team title, and will try for a state title this week. Also advancing individually to state were John Tubbs, Devon Meeks, David Stern, Max Hubbard, Jake Lehmann, Tony Spiel, Adam Cody, Chandler Dye, and Tristan Boyd. Rosemount also advanced all three relays to state, and will field relay teams from a group of the swimmers above and John Hannasch, Braden McCormack, David Baker, Conor Manning, or Dane Peloquin.
The boys wrestling team had two individuals - Phil Levine at 103 pounds and Frank Pokriefka at heavyweight - qualify for this week's state tournament.
