Irish win section opener
It was a dominating performance for Rosemount's boys tennis team during the final match of the regular season.
The Irish rolled over Farmington, 7-0, in a nonconference match-up, which served as a tune-up for the Section tournament.
Max Corrigan had things rolling for Rosemount at No. 1 singles, sweeping his way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
At No. 2 singles, Chase Vogler won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Cody Osegard won, 6-1, 6-3, and at No. 4 singles Skylar Milne won, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Nate Manning and Tyler Osegard won, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Jay Werness and Stuart Hatlen won, 6-2, 6-3, and at No. 3 doubles Matt Baker and Sam Schmitz won, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
"It is a great group of players," Irish coach Jeanne Ewen said. "Players in doubles are moving really well together. Our first-serve percentage is improving for all matches."
The Irish continued their momentum on Monday in the first round of section play, winning over Kennedy, 5-2.
Corrigan won, 6-3, 6-1, while Vogler was victorious, 6-2, 6-1.
Rosemount swept all three doubles matches.
At No. 1 doubles, Manning and Tyler Osegard won, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Hatlen and Werness won, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, Schmitz and Baker won, 6-3, 6-2.
As result of the victory, the Irish advanced to face St. Thomas Academy in the second round on Wednesday.
St. Thomas won the match, 6-1, ending Rosemount's season.
Vogler won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4, but several other matches were competitive.
