The Rosemount High School marching band returned from St. Louis with another high placing and some nice medals to show for their work.
The Irish finished first in Class AAA and fourth overall out of 64 bands in the preliminary rounds of the Bands of America Super Regional Band Championships held at the Edward Jones Dome. They finished seventh overall in finals competition. The top six bands in the weekend’s competition are past finalists in Grand National competition, and two are past national champions.
Because they won their class in the preliminary round, all members of the Irish band received a medal during an Olympic-style awards ceremony. The Rosemount band also won a caption award for outstanding general effect in the preliminary round.
Rosemount was the best-placed Minnesota band in the competition and reached the finals for the ninth consecutive year. This was the biggest year yet for the St. Louis Super Regional, which is the biggest Bands of America competition each year outside of nationals.
With field show competitions behind them, the Irish band will turn its focus now to preparing for a Jan. 1 appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
