Irish give No. 1 seed Woodbury a scare, but fall 4-3 in section quarterfinals
The No. 8-seeded Rosemount boys hockey team gave a strong effort against No. 1 seed Woodbury on Thursday night in the Class 2A, Section 3 quarterfinals. But the Irish ended up on the losing end in a 4-3 loss.
Woodbury took a 3-0 lead. The Royals scored once in the first period and added two shorthanded goals in the second.
Cory Pederson brought it to 3-1 when he scored for Rosemount at the 5:45 mark in the third. Woodbury again made it a three-goal deficit for the Irish.
However, Rosemount would score twice to make it 4-3 before falling short at the end.
Andrew Anderson scored at 12:12 of the third, and Brady Loew added a tally at the 13:11 mark.
Loew had a goal and assist. Nate Goodmanson, Grant Weierke, Connor Johnson, and Mike Cossalter each picked up single assists for the Irish.
Rosemount's Justin Franks made 29 saves in goal as the Irish season ended.
