The Rosemount High School football team got all the offense it needed on the first possession of its homecoming game against Apple Valley Friday night. But that didn't slow down the Irish in an eventual 40-6 win.

Andy Gustafson took the first play from scrimmage 80 yards for a touchdown and the extra point gave the Irish a 7-0 lead before most fans had even finished their first hot dog. Apple Valley fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and the Irish took advantage with another touchdown not long after. The wind blocked the extra point attempt, but the Irish appeared to be in control.

Apple Valley converted two fourth downs on its lone scoring drive at the end of the first quarter, but the Irish got another touchdown early in the second quarter to push the lead back to 13 at 19-6.

From there on, it was all Irish in the scoreboard. Rosemount got a touchdown pass and took a recovered fumble in for a score to make it 33-6 at halftime.

The Irish got just one touchdown in the second half.

Before Friday's game Rosemount High School dedicated a plaque honoring all RHS graduates who have been killed while serving in the military. Jill Stephenson and Lori Wilfahrt, the mothers of the two most recent additions to that list, were on hand. Ben Kopp and Andrew Wilfahrt were both killed while serving in Afghanistan.
