Interest light early in council filing period
Through the first week of filing, just two candidates had filed to run for Rosemount city council in this fall's general election.
Maila Ellefson was the first to file. She submitted her affidavit of candidacy on May 22, the first day of the filing period. This is the third time Ellefson has run for city council.
Jeff Weisensel was the only one of the two incumbents up for election to submit by the time this issue went to press Wednesday morning. He filed on May 23.
Weisensel and Matt Kearney are both up for reelection this year. Weisensel was first elected in 2008. Kearney was appointed in 2011 to complete the term left vacant when Kurt Bills won a seat in the Minnesota House.
The filing period will remain open until 5 p.m. June 5. Interested candidates must file their affidavit of candidacy at Rosemount City Hall. Both available terms are for four years.
