Sherman Perrault worked in the engineering field for more than 25 years. Then the economy took a dive and finding work in the field got a lot harder. So he decided to make a big career change. He's opening a tattoo and piercing shop in Rosemount.

The two worlds seem like oil and water but for Perrault the change makes sense. At the end of March Perrault plans to open All Out Ink Tattoo and Piercing at 15084 Claret Ave.

"I got to make a living somehow and I like tattoos, I have tattoos and it seems like the thing to do," said Perrault.

Perrault isn't a tattoo artist or piercer. He plans to run the business side, while people with experience and talent in the field do what they do. The shop will also offer cosmetic tattooing and esthetician services.

Perrault is currently in the process of finding tattoo artists and piercers for the shop.

A tattoo enthusiast himself, Perrault said he's looking for artists with a dedication to customer service.

"I've been into shops where they make you feel like you're wasting their time. I don't want that," said Perrault.

While you can't tell now, Perrault said the build out of the shop will be done with the customer in mind, including having a comfortable lobby area and private rooms for piercing and permanent makeup application.

"I want this to be a comfortable, welcoming tattoo shop," said Perrault.

As of Jan. 1 2011, the Minnesota Department of Health took over regulating the tattoo industry. All tattoo shops must be licensed by the state. Perrault said he's in favor of the change and looks forward to working with the MDH to get the shop licensed. All tattoo artists and piercers also must be individually licensed.

As for bringing the shop to Rosemount, Perrault said he looked all over for a place to bring his shop and Rosemount offered the best location for the best price.

Perrault said he looks forward to being part of the community and hopes the business thrives.
