Hockey will rock The Pond Saturday
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Trent Eigner will admit that planning Hockey Rocks the Pond has been a learning experience. Some of the ideas going into the daylong event have fallen flat, others have come together well.

"It's a work in progress," said Eigner.

Ready or not though the event is nigh. A partnership between The Pond and Fireside Restaurant, Hockey Rocks the Pond will take place from noon to midnight Aug. 14.

"We wanted to build a daylong event event to celebrate hockey," Eigner said of the event. "The early portion of the day is geared toward kids while the evening hours will be more geared towards adults,"

Kid-friendly activities will include games, face painting, a professional player autograph session and a 3 on 3 tournament. The list of who will be signing autographs hasn't been nailed down yet but Eigner said it should be fun for kids to meet some pros. The last event of the afternoon will be a 3 on 3 game played by professionals.

As the day heads into the evening hours it will be the adults' turn to be entertained. Minnesota musicians Mister Meaner and GB Leighton will perform. Throughout the event Fireside will serve food and beverages.

"We wanted to get people together to have some fun," Eigner said. "And we just felt like the of end of the summer would be a good time to do that."

The event will raise money for a good cause. Eigner said money raised will go to support Team 25, the Shjon Podein Children's Foundation.

The foundation works to improve the quality of life and create an environment of caring and community support for children facing extraordinary difficulties in their lives, according to the Team 25 web site.

"It's pretty awesome that we can get people together to have some fun and to support a good cause," said Eigner.

So far more than 300 tickets have been sold for the event. Eigner hopes more people will come out for the event but he'll take what they get.

Having learned a lot through the planning, Eigner said they hope the event will become an annual thing.

"It's something we can build on," said Eigner.
