Hitchcock series to start with Rear Window
People have differing opinions about what qualifies as a classic film and what is just a good old movie. However, the films made by Alfred Hitchcock are rarely questioned.
That’s why Rosemount Area Arts Council member Jim Kotz wanted to feature his films. There’s just no question that Hitchcock made classics.
“Hitchcock changed the industry. He grabs you and takes you on a ride,” said Kotz.
The Rosemount Area Arts Council will show a Hitchcock film the last Friday of the month through April. The series will start Jan. 31 with Rear Window starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. Doors of the Steeple Center will open at 7 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7:30 p.m.
On Feb. 28 the feature will be Vertigo; North by Northwest will be shown on March 28 and the series will close with Psycho.
For Kotz, sharing classic movies is a rite of passage. While his kids were growing up, he enjoyed sharing classic films with them as part of their family night activities. Kotz said he hopes parents in Rosemount will take the opportunity to introduce Hitchcock to their children.
Before showing each film, Kotz said he will share some interesting tidbits about each film. Kotz said the films will play in the order they were released.
The films will be shown on a 14 foot screen. Kotz said while you may have seen the movies before seeing them on the big screen with full sound is a different experience worth having.
“It just has a different feel,” said Kotz.
Refreshments will be sold including popcorn, candy and soda.
Tickets are $6 per person per film. A ticket pack for the series can be purchased for $20. Tickets can be bought online at www.rosemountarts.com or at the Front Porch in the Steeple Center.
