Gymnatics: Irish win finale
A couple of injuries and a close team score made it a stressful meet early on, but it was all good news in the end for the Rosemount gymnastics team Monday night.
Lizzie Thooft hyperextended her knee and Rachel Schow had to be brought to the hospital after landing on her neck on a jump from the balance beam. The two missteps delayed the meet an hour, but both gymnasts came away without serious injury and the Irish used 1-2 finishes in the floor exercise and beam to pull away for a 136.25-133.875 conference win over Eagan.
"It was a crazy meet," Rosemount coach Jason Passeri said.
Kailey Askew won two events for the Irish and finished as the meet's all-around champion with a score of 35.15. After placing fourth in the vault, she won the bars and closed out the meet with a first-place score of 9.25 in the floor exercise.
Abby Nelson placed third in the all-around with a 34.3. She was second in the floor exercise (8.825) and balance beam (9.1) behind teammate Jenna Schlukebier (8.925).
Meghan Creese led the team with a second-place 9.05 in the vault and Kiera Drymalski was third in the bars.
The Irish compete in the section meet next Friday.
