A look at the schedule for the Rosemount gymnastics team doesn't reveal any downtime. But the schedule does allow maybe some time to relax.

That's unusual for Rosemount in the competitive Lake Conference. The No. 8 Irish are one of four conference teams ranked in the top eight in the state in the newest rankings. There are also three section teams in the top eight.

Competing at Chaska earlier this week and hosting Apple Valley on Feb. 10, the Irish are trying to use the schedule to their advantage to prepare for the postseason.

Rosemount beat Chaska, 140.5-129.45, on Tuesday. The Irish competed with all-arounder Katie Murgic only participating in one event. Against Apple Valley next week, there also will likely be a bit of a different look to the lineup.

"It was a pretty low score," Irish coach Jason Passeri said about the Chaska meet. "Katie tweaked her ankle and we want her healthy for sections. We want to keep her safe. She's had a history of ankle problems the last few years, and it's always been late in the year.

"We just want to get everybody healthy and ready for sections."

The Irish still passed the 140-point mark against Chaska.

Katrina Clayton won the all-around competition after winning the vault (9.05) and uneven bars (9.45), and placing second on the floor exercise (9.25).

Kathy Aune was second on vault with an 8.9, while Tara Gottschling and Claire Judeh tied for third with scores of 8.85.

Murgic did compete on the uneven bars and scored a 9.1 to finish second.

Rosemount struggled as a team on the balance beam, although Macy Stearns won the event with a 9.275 and Judeh was second with an 8.75.

"Beam was a disaster," Passeri said.

Stearns also won the floor exercise with a 9.275. Clayton was second, and Gottschling was third with a 9.175.

The Irish host Apple Valley next week in the final dual meet of the season. The section meet is schedule for Feb. 20.
