Winning the Simley Invite has become an annual tradition for the Rosemount gymnastics team.

The Irish won the season-opening invitational for the eighth straight year on Saturday, scoring 130.85 points to top the six-team field.

Teams from North St. Paul, Bloomington Jefferson, Simley, Henry Sibley and Bloomington Kennedy also competed.

The senior-less Irish mounted nearly their entire margin of victory in the floor exercise where they placed all six competitors in the top eight. Sophomore Kailey Askew led the way with a second-place score of 9.45, followed by Jenna Schlukebier (3rd, 8.8), Rachel Schow in fifth, Abby Nelson in sixth, Hannah James in seventh and Cami Marx in eighth.

Askew placed second in the all-around with a score of 34.55. She added a second-place vault score of 9.1, a second-place showing in the bars and a fourth-place finish in the balance beam.

Schlukebier was fourth in the bars and sixth in the all-around. Nelson led the Irish with a third-place score in the beam.

The Irish are back in action Saturday when they compete against Northfield at the Northfield Gymnastics Club. The meet gets under way at 10 a.m.
