Gymnastics: Irish continue SSC win streak

The Rosemount gymnastics team picked up right where it left off last season in last Tuesday’s South Suburban Conference opener.

The Irish began defense of their undefeated league title by topping Lakeville South, 136.975-126.725. The Irish JV also defeated the Cougars, scoring 127.45 points.

Returning state qualifier Josey Schlie was the meet’s all-around champion. She won the vault with a score of 9.225 and placed second in the bars, balance beam and floor exercise (9.325). Another returning state meet entrant, Abby Nelson, won the beam with a score of 8.775, took third in the floor exercise (8.975), came in fourth in the vault (8.6) and placed second in the all-around.

Shannon McCoy had the highest score of the meet with a 9.35 in the floor exercise and rounded out Rosemount’s 1-2-3 finish in the all-around. McCoy was also first in the bars with an 8.3 and third in the vault with an 8.65.

Meghan Creese added a second-place 9.025 in the vault and Kidron Stromwall was fourth in the beam.

JV winners were Rachel Schow in the vault, Olivia Ratgen in the bars, Creese in the beam and Meghan McKenzie in the first floor exercise of her career.

The Irish are back in action tonight for another South Suburban meet at Eagan.
