Gymnastics: Irish break 140 at Eagan meet

Rosemount counted five falls and still posted its highest point total of the season in a 142.375-132.3 South Suburban Conference victory at Eagan last Thursday.

The Irish’s highest team score came in the vault where Meghan Creese and Josey Schlie tied for first place with matching scores of 9.4. Shannon McCoy’s 9.1 and Abby Nelson’s 9.0 gave the team a total score of 36.9 in the event.

Schlie also topped 9.0 while winning the uneven bars (9.1) and floor exercise (9.425) and placed first in the all-around with a total score of 36.8.

Nelson was second with a 35.275 after winning the balance beam with a 9.15 and placing second in the floor exercise with another 9.15. The Irish placed 1-2-3-4 in both events, with Schlie (8.875), McCoy (8.825) and Creese (8.65) placing in the beam and Kailey Askew (3rd, 9.05) and Rachel Schow (4th, 8.7) rounding out the lineup in the floor exercise.

Askew added a runner-up score of 8.4 in the uneven bars and McCoy was fourth in the bars and third in the all-around with a score of 34.475.

The Irish (3-0) compete again next Saturday when they host Farmington.
