Expectations are increasing for the Rosemount girls soccer team, and that fact pleases coach Kevin Adams.

The expectations aren't just in terms of wins and losses. They're also about program, the skill of the players and the cohesiveness amongst the players.

"I think what's happened for us now is the girls that are very committed and very serious about the game of soccer are now coming out, and they realize now at Rosemount that we've created an expectation," Adams said. "We've created an expectation that to play at the higher levels you're going to have to be committed and you're going to have to do more."

In his third season as coach, Adams hopes the wins increase for the third straight year. Two years ago, the Irish posted two wins. Last year they finished with six victories.

Adams believes he has the team to make another improvement and knows the key will chemistry.

"I think you can have the best skilled team, but if you don't have the chemistry you will not be successful," Adams said. "You don't have to like everybody. You can agree to disagree. But when we are on that field we're all one family. That's what we do. I think that familiarity is there. They know how the program works. My seniors have been with me the entire time. They know what chemistry we need to move this team forward."

It begins with the team's captains -- goaltender Katie Berkopec and defenders MacKenzie Carlson, Amanda Newman and Micaella Petrich.

With those four, defense is expected to be the team's strength, at least early on.

Senior defender Abby Shimota, who played varsity for the Irish as a sophomore, has returned after having to play last season at Forest Lake.

Shade Pratt returns as the leading goal scorer.

Adams is expecting several players to chip in with more scoring.

It seems there are increased expectations everywhere.
