Rachel Schow and Katie Duff were crowned conference champions for the Rosemount girls track team last Wednesday in Eagan.

Schow's sweep of the hurdle races and Duff's big spin in the discus accounted for nearly half of the Irish's points as they moved up three spots from last year to place fifth with 62 points at the South Suburban Conference Championships.

Lakeville South dominated the girls' portion of the meet with 156 points. Prior Lake paced the rest of the 10-team field with 106 points.

Duff, a senior, topped her seed distance and second-place Natalie Manders of Eastview by four feet with a toss of 130 feet, 6 inches.

Schow won the 100 hurdles in 15.28 seconds and the 300 hurdles in a meet-record time of 45.27 seconds. Teammate Ellie Vraa was third in the 100 hurdles in 15.56 and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 47.27.

Schow, Vraa, Marissa Knott and Josie French combined for the Irish's top relay finish, placing third in the 4x200 in 1 minute, 48.25 seconds.

French, a freshman, was also a double place-winner in the individual events in her first career conference meet. She placed fourth in the 100 in 12.82 and seventh in the high jump, clearing 5-0.

Also scoring points for the Irish were Haley Polk in the triple jump (fifth, 34-11 ½), Sydney Hansen in the 800 (seventh, 2:26.28) and Molly Gruenke in the discus (eighth, 100-0).

The Irish will compete for state meet spots this week at the Section 3AA Championships at the University of St. Thomas.
