Girls track: Schow, Duff return to state
Rosemount's lone returning state qualifiers from a season ago will be back at Hamline University this weekend.
Sophomore Rachel Schow once again swept the hurdle races and senior Katie Duff qualified in the discus while leading the Irish to a fourth-place total of 61 points at the Section 3AA Championships at St. Thomas.
Eagan edged Prior Lake 132 1/2-129 1/2 for the team title. Eastview followed in a distant third with 85 points.
Schow won the 100 hurdles, an event she finished sixth in a year ago at state, in a time of 14.79 seconds, and the 300 hurdles in 44.19. Both of those times rank second among state entrants.
Duff finished third against a talented discus field at the section meet, but her spin of 130 feet, 11 inches ranks seventh among state qualifiers.
Ellie Vraa and Haley Polk were the next-closest Rosemount athletes to earning state meet berths. Vraa finished third in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles, and Polk, a freshman, narrowly missed the state standard in the long jump with a leap of 17-3 1/2. Polk was also sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 34-7 1/4.
Other high finishes came from Sydney Hansen (sixth) and Hannah Grim (eighth) in the 800 and Liz Evenocheck (ninth) in the 3,200.
Rosemount's highest relay finish came in the 4x200 where Daria Cathey, Marissa Knott, Shea Buchman and Abby Nelson combined on a sixth-place time of 1:48.95. The 4x100 (Josie French, Schow, Knott, Vraa), 4x400 (Grim, Evenocheck, Alyssa Watkins, Maddie Schroeder) and 4x800 (Grim, Hansen, Lizzie Thooft, Natalie Narloch) all placed seventh.
