Girls tennis: Visitation edges Irish
Fourth-seeded Visitation won three out of four singles matches to advance past fifth-seeded Rosemount 4-3 in the Section 3AA tournament quarterfinals last Thursday at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
The Irish (11-7) stacked their doubles lineup, but couldn’t pull off the sweep as Rachel Hoffmann and Gretchen McDonald were edged 4-6, 3-6. Winning their doubles matches were the tandems of Abby Kohagen and Monica McDonald Kyla Bills and Anna Leary.
Ally Baker added a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory.
The Irish opened section play last Tuesday with a 7-0 sweep of 12th-seeded Holy Angels. Six of the seven matches were decided in straight sets.
The Irish open Section 3AA individual tournament play tomorrow at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. Baker, a fifth seed, and Emily Harrington will represent the team in the singles bracket, while the duos of Monica McDonald and Abby Kohagen and Gretchen McDonald and Kyla Bills will compete in doubles action.
