Girls swimming and diving: Garrity wins four at Burnsville
The eighth-ranked (Class 2A) Rosemount girls swimming and diving team bounced back from its first dual loss of the season with a 93-72 victory at Burnsville last Thursday.
The Irish won nine of 12 events and built a 93-47 lead that sent the meet into exhibition scoring for the final two events.
Katie Garrity was part of four of those first-place finishes. She opened the meet by winning the 200 freestyle and came back to take the top spot in the 50 freestyle. Garrity then went to work in the relays, joining Madeline Ryan, Michelle Simms and Grace Herron in the 200 freestyle relay and Megan Wenman, Cassandra Hutchins and Olivia Johnston in the in the 400 freestyle relay.
Herron added gold-medal efforts in the 500 freestyle and the 200 medley relay where she teamed up with Wenman, Amanda O’Brien and Abby Tesch. Tesch was also a first-place finisher in the 100 freestyle.
Second-place finishes went to Jessica Troen in the 100 backstroke, Simms in the 500 freestyle, Carisssa Boerboom in the 100 butterfly, Wenman in the 200 IM, O’Brien in the 200 freestyle and the Irish’s No. 2 200 medley relay team.
The Irish are back at the Rosemount Middle School pool tonight for a South Suburban Conference meet against Bloomington Jefferson. Events begin at 6 p.m.
