The Rosemount girls soccer team entered last Thursday's home game against Lakeville South riding streak of four wins and a tie in its last five games.

Then the Irish turned in what coach Kevin Adams called "their poorest performance of the season" in a 4-0 shutout loss to the Cougars. It was just the second time Rosemount has been shut out this season, with the first coming in their last setback Sept. 8 at 10th-ranked Lakeville North.

The Irish posted a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal, but couldn't put a shot past the Lakeville South goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Irish keeper Kate Mallory allowed a season-high four goals.

"As I told the girls, you are going to have games like this from time to time where the good effort does not necessarily produce a positive result, but if we keep to our system of play which has made us successful, everything will even out and be fine," Adams said. "The Irish continue to work hard every game and that is all we can ask for. If we can stay mentally tough and correct the key mistakes, we should continue our winning ways this week."

The Irish (8-3-1) resumed their schedule Tuesday with a road trip to Bloomington Kennedy. The team is back home tonight at 7 p.m. when it hosts North St. Paul for a non-conference matchup. The regular season wraps up the following week with games against a pair of ranked South Suburban Conference opponents - No. 8 Eastview and No. 7 Eagan.

One goal was enough for the Irish to pick up a big road win last Tuesday at Prior Lake.

Abby Chihantek found the net in the first half on a pass from Allie Hawkins and Mallory did the rest, picking up her fifth shutout of the season, and third in four games.

"The Irish are getting offensive opportunities, but finishing has been a little tougher as of late," said Adams, whose team has scored four goals its last five games.
