The Rosemount-Eagan girls lacrosse team continued its season of firsts last week.

And the Wild Irish might not be done yet.

After earning the first playoff victory in team history last week, Rosemount-Eagan went out two days later and earned a quarterfinals win with a 15-8 decision against Rochester John Marshall. The No. 3-seeded Wild Irish have beaten the No. 14 and 6 seeds already in the playoffs.

"We jumped to an 11-0 lead in the first half with some of the best transition and offensive play we've had all year," coach Jeff Smith said of the John Marshall contest. "Some of the goals came off two or three passes in transition and were worthy of a highlight reel. We also got very strong defensive play with consistent ground ball wins, timely interceptions, and strong coverage, especially in the first half, from our defensive core."

Smith credited the work of Ashley Hawk, Hannah O'Donnell, Sydney Lubely, Jessica Hasslinger, and Katelyn Paget on defense.

Meanwhile, Simone Haugen led the offense with eight goals and three assists.

Taylor Budge scored three goals and Cassie Miller contributed two goals and an assist.

Steph LaVictoire, O'Donnell, Abi Rodstein and Maddie Johnson tallied assists. Goaltender Kelli Breiter made nine saves.

Rosemount-Eagan played No. 2 seed Lakeville this week. Results were not available at press time. Go to www.rosemounttownpages.com to see how the Wild Irish fared in the quarterfinals. A victory against Lakeville would put Rosemount-Eagan into the Section 3 finals today against the winner of the Bloomington Kennedy-Apple Valley matchup.

"While very proud and happy with how things have gone, our players want more and will keep working to earn it," Smith said.
