Close games have been the norm for the Rosemount girls lacrosse team this spring.
The Irish have played seven games so far and all seven have been decided by three or fewer goals. All three of last week's games went down to the wire, starting with a 17-14 home loss to sixth-ranked Bloomington Jefferson. The Irish bounced back with a pair of road victories, knocking off Prior Lake 11-8 on Thursday and St. Louis Park 8-6 on Saturday.
Maddie Johnson supplied half the team's offensive output at rainy St. Louis Park, scoring four goals. Cassie Miller added a goal and two assists and Shaniah Anderson, Meghan Tuccitto and Madi Lubeley each scored goals.
Sophomore Charley Belden shined in her second game in relief of injured goalie Alexis Raeth, stopping seven shots in 50 minutes.
Johnson and Anderson each recorded hat tricks and Belden stopped 13 shots as the Irish picked up their first South Suburban Conference win of the season last Thursday at Prior Lake.
"It was nice to get first conference win -- a solid effort where we could have opened it up more if we converted on some other very nice opportunities that we created for ourselves," Rosemount coach Jeff Smith said. "We did a nice job defensively and Charley Belden, after beginning to play goalie a month ago, started and won her first varsity game."
Tuccitto, Lubeley, Bethann Dugstad and Shannon Swanson backed Johnson and Anderson's big games with single goals.
Miller tossed in a game-high seven goals in last Tuesday's high-scoring affair with Jefferson at Irish Stadium.
"We played very well offensively scoring the most goals as a team all season," Smith said. "But Jefferson was able to answer any charge we tried to make as we came up a little short trying to defend their speed through the midfield and their ability to finish inside the eight-meter area."
Johnson scored four goals for the Irish and Anderson added three.
